Taking Time For Self Care

As we go through this unprecedented time in our lives, taking time for “you” is more important than ever.  Let’s face it – this is a crazy time in our world, and there is no right way to feel or to handle this emotionally. If you are anything like the people in my life, there are days of uncertainly, anxiety, and deep concern.  It’s during those times when you just need to give yourself permission to pause.

Finding balance juggling this new reality will be essential.  Set boundaries for yourself. Create a schedule for yourself, and take some “me” time.  Here are a few things to consider as you are working from home, staying home with the kids, or spending a lot of time alone:

  • Create a daily schedule and get dressed every day.
  • If you are working from home, leave work at a specific time and forget about it; create boundaries here too.
  • Make your health a priority.  Eat a healthy, balanced diet. Focus on building up your own immunity.
  • Find balance emotionally. Nurture your passions.
  • Make time for friends and family.  Check in with them regularly.
  • Use this extra time to start that workout plan you have wanted to start. There are many companies that are offering free access for the next 90 days.  Take advantage of this opportunity.  (Peloton, Beachbody, local gyms, etc.).
  • Get outside. Go for a walk. Do some gardening. Getting some Vitamin D can change your outlook pretty quickly.
  • Take a ride in the car. Take the cover off that classic or motorcycle you’ve had stored all winter.
  • Read a book.
  • Talk endlessly on FaceTime to your grandbaby.  🡨 that’s what I do!
  • Plan your late summer/fall vacation.  Although travel is on hold for the moment, it doesn’t mean you can’t start looking at a great getaway to look at all the fall colors.

Find those distractions to feed your spirit and remember that we are all in this together and that WE WILL get through it!

Many thanks to the people risking their lives each day during this crisis!  To the grocery store workers, the bankers, the first responders and all medical staff, I am grateful and thankful for your service.

Please stay safe!
